Samsung Launches Exynos 9 Series 8895 Octa-Core SoC Built on 10nm FinFET Processor.

Samsung has unveiled its latest Exynos 9 Series processor today in Seoul, South Korea. The new Exynos 8895 octa-core SoC will be manufactured using the most advanced 10nm FinFet process technology. Even the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC is also built on the same 10nm FinFET process from Samsung. According to Samsung, the new Exynos 8895 SoC based on the 10nm FinFET process will give 27% higher performance output while consuming 40% less power than the processor’s built on 14nm FinFET process technology. The eight-core Exynos 8895 SoC comes with four custom designed second-gen CPU cores from Samsung for better performance output and the another four Cortex-A53 cores.
Commenting on the announcement, Ben Hur, VP of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics, said,“In addition to being built on the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895 incorporates Samsung’s cutting-edge technologies including a 2nd generation custom CPU, gigabit LTE modem, and more. With industry leading technologies like VPU, the Exynos 8895 will drive the innovation of next generation smartphones, VR headsets, and automotive infotainment system.”The Exynos 8895 SoC packs Mali-G71 GPU from that is mentioned to offer“next level 3D graphic performance that minimizes latency for 4K UHD VR gaming experience.”There is also separate Vision Processing Unit (VPU) for recognizing and analyzing items or movements that in return improves the video tracking, panoramic image processing, as well as machine vision technology. With the advanced multi-format codec (MFC) onboard, the processor supports video recording and playback at a maximum resolution of 4K UHD at 120fps. Even with the virtual reality (VR) applications, the Exynos 8895 can give realistic and immersive VR video experience at 4K resolution.Just like the Snapdragon 835 SoC, the Exynos 8895 SoC also packs a GigaBit modem supporting five carrier aggregation. It can provide download speeds upto 1 Gbps and upload speeds up to 150 Mbps. The security features are also enhanced with a separate processing unit for mobile payments that use iris or fingerprint recognition. Currently, the Exynos 8895 SoC is said to be in mass production. Though there is no confirmation, we can expect the upcoming Galaxy S8 and GalaxyS8 Plus smartphones to be powered by thisnew 10nm processor.
